A Note From the Mind of Zed
*Below is some insight into Zed’s world of neuroscience innovation.
“Is there an aspect of the business side of your medical practice that frustrates you? Well this may sting a bit…
Everything everyone experiences is always the perfect outcome of the system that created it.
Sorry, not sorry.
Often, our brains (which are built for survival in a world long gone) zoom in on an event or scenario and tell us… that is all there is. We find ourselves blaming outside events, the market, the weather, the day of the week.
This is the unevolved part of our brain trying to create comfort for ourselves. It means well…but there is a more evolved way of thinking.
When we blame the outside world…we give away our freedom.
In Man’s Search for Meaning, Victor Frankl says, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”
Maybe the statement about everything being the perfect outcome of the system that created it…stung, but you can quickly realize that in fact it is empowering.
Once realized…that means all you need to do is take the focus off of blame and fixing a problem and focus on identifying the constraints in your system.
Every system has a human component, which is why I have always started with the foundation of neuroscience or human behavior.
What you do or what you witness other humans do…is a perfect outcome of the system that created it.
If you want a different outcome…you need to tweak the system.”
